Chains
Axel was discovered in Amarillo, Texas chained in his yard with no other shelter than an Igloo doghouse for years. His neighbor finally had enough of seeing it and got him rescued with the help of the Humane Society and Doberman Rescue of NM. The chain had to be surgically removed. He will likely have a large scar for the rest of his life. Let's hope he doesn’t carry those scars deeper.
And YET ... he is a love. Still shy of coming to people for affection, but when it is given to him, he melts into it and gives it right back. He also is good with other dogs so far. He has not been away from hell for long, so it remains to be seen that he can jump into a normal happy life. If only the state of Texas had some anti-cruelty laws.
I don’t want to insult the good rural people of America, but rural areas are often post-medieval in their attitude toward ‘Private Property rights’. Animals are private property and can be disposed of, abused and modified (the Aesthetic Mutilation of Docking and Cropping) at the will of the people.
