This is the story of Axel, a Doberman that was heroically rescued in Amarillo, Texas
Sadly, Axel's story is not so uncommon. He spent the first years of his life on a chain in a barren back yard with virtually no love, attention, or comfort. He was chained to a dog house that gave little warmth in winter or escape from the sweltering heat in summer. Finally, someone that knew of his predicament took the bold step to retrieve him from this monotonous life and had to make the quick and horrific call to tear the chain from his neck. That's right, it had been on him so long from such a young age that his skin had grown into the metal chain.
Axel was immediately taken to a vet where his neck was treated and he was brought up-to-date on shots and scheduled for his neuter. Through all of this Axel seems to have known that the people that rescued him were doing just that. He was calm and appreciative. Once Axel came to Albuquerque, he had a difficult time at first getting used to being welcome into an actual house. He was very timid and shy, but got along great with the other dogs and slowly started asking for the love he had never gotten.
Now Axel is in his forever home in the East Mountains on lots of land with a new brother Doberman and a Husky to play with and people that have welcomed him to a comfortable loving environment. Amazingly, his neck has healed with NO scars and judging by his happy confident new demeanor, there are no scars on his sweet soul from his former neglect.
